Help us to help these children!

Donate to School Orchards Africa Society through Canada Helps. Canada Helps immediately issues a Canadian Charitable Tax Receipt via email.

Tax Receipts are also available, by request, for Canadian donors who donate $25 or more.

A $10 donation buys one fruit tree and supports the maintenance of that tree through to harvesting for many years. A larger donation will help us build concrete cisterns in each Orchard School.

Spring 2011. The children were overjoyed when the cisterns arrived. Now they have drinking water and water for irrigation.

Active Learning

Our pictures show students measuring the distance between the holes for the fruit trees at Ikanga school.

The children then each take their own tree and help one another dig the holes for planting.

With the help of their teacher the children mulch, water, weed and apply manure to their tree. They also care for the trees as they mature.

Eventually the child will benefit from the fruit produced - either for family food or for sale to help with secondary education.

With the help of the school community, the students dug the holes, planted 200 trees, and heavily mulched around each tree. The fruit trees, planted at the beginning of the rainy season will grow, on average, an encouraging 15 cm in the first 3 months!

YOUR donation will make this possible in other schools. $10 buys a fruit tree. $16-18K will purchase a large concrete cistern and hand pump. Why not donate now?

These children celebrate hope for their future

Since inception in 2010, Tancan and SOAS have successfully planted orchards in eleven rural Tanzanian schools. The first schools are now beginning to harvest the fruit! We now plan to interplant and enhance each school using permaculture concepts.
